The Desk Hunt Continues...

We still haven't pulled the trigger on the hanging desk situation, it's mostly the rails that are giving us pause. That, and the fact that the husband says we don't have studs in our walls and the shelves would be on the same wall that already houses the majority of our kitchen cabinets. Our building is old, and I don't want to wake up one morning to find that an entire wall that houses most of our wordly possessions has come crashing to the ground. There is no amount of coffee to make me face that Monday morning.

So I've found this option from Pottery Barn, which is a more than I want to spend but we still have some gift certificates hanging around from the wedding. I like that the open shelves can go on either side and that they can be switched out in the future with a filling cabinet or other necessity. But again, not sure. What do you think?

I drooled over the Bedford modular office system at Pottery Barn too but it's really expensive. I found a much less expensive alternative with almost as much flexibility and options in terms of pieces at JC Penney. The link to the page is crazy long, so here is a tinyurl: http://tinyurl.com/knyfge. If you want to search directly I think it's called the Customizable Office Desk suite. Also, if you don't mind the look of the rails, you're just worried about what you'd mount them to on the wall (and whether you have studs to appropriately support the rails), Elfa at the Container Store has a free-standing system that doesn't require you to drill into your wall. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat. I like the PB desk, but I think I like the wall color more. JC Penney does carry a lot of PB "inspired" pieces and they're constantly having sales.
Good luck with your search!

Honestly, I have the PB bedford set - and yes, it's pretty bulky and WAY over priced. I just recently redid both of my master closets with the ELFA products from Container store - and to be honest, I liked it MUCH better. Yes, there are white bars - but you don't really notice them. What does make a difference is how easily you can customize your set up - and change it/adding elements if you want to. It's a great system - very affordable. PS: if you order the desk online and then pick it up in store you can get 15% off by using code "click15offer"
