White Twig

As much as I love bowls, pillows are a close second. Also? I adore anything that's monogrammed. So, its no surprise I am really loving these monogrammed pillows from White Twig. One would look just perfect on our bed...

"... some things don't matter much. Like the color of a house. How big is that in the overall scheme of life? But lifting a person's heart, now that matters. The whole problem with people is they know what matters, but they don't choose it. The hardest thing on earth is choosing what matters." - Sue Monk Kidd

Mosaic Tiles

There is this crazy house (condo? townhouse?) a few blocks away from us that I am fascinated with. You can kind of see inside the gate to what looks like several apartments but its hard to tell. Anyway, all of the walls and the sidewalk surrounding it are covered in mosaic tiles. Most of them are old and faded, the majority are chipped, but I still think it is so beautiful. I tried to make a mosaic vase once. It did not turn out well.

Happy Spring

As I was walking into work yesterday, there was a person standing next to the elevator bank with a basket. When I passed her she said "Happy Spring!" and handed me three closed daffodil buds. Well okay, I realize that makes it sound like she was just standing there specifically waiting for me, but that wasn't the case. Everyone got themselves some buds. Anyway, I put them in the only container I had at my desk and by the end of the day that had opened all the way up - I feel like they are sitting there and smiling at me. I took this cell phone picture before I left for the day, so excuse the quality. Now if only I could be greeted with flowers every morning (or at the very least, once a week).

Sunday Dinner

Sundays have always been a big deal in my family. No matter how crazy the schedule, we were expected to be home for Sunday dinner. When my brother and I got older and that wasn't quite feasible anymore, a Sunday evening phone call became the the alternative. I'll admit that even though they aren't always home cooked meals, Brad and I have carried on the tradition and are always together for a Sunday evening meal (well, most meals actually, but you get the drift).

A couple of weeks ago I was really in the mood for some Italian food, and in the latest edition of Everyday Food there was a recipe for an "alternative" pesto pasta using parsley instead of basil. I thought the top picture of the chopped parsley was pretty, which is the only reason I am including it. Everyday Food doesn't let me down very often, but the sauce tasted like I was eating parsley leaves straight from the bunch. I love pesto, so its possible I am just really partial to the basil taste, but I wasn't a fan. Apparently some other people like it though, so if you're a parsley lover here is the recipe.

Luckily, I also made one of my favorites - bruschetta. Here is the link to the recipe that I usually use, except I am lazy and don't go through all of the tomato boiling and preparation. I don't even remove the skins. I just chop them up and remove the seeds, then throw it all together in a bowl. Completely by accident, I made the mix early once so that I could just toss it all in the oven before the guests arrived, and I discovered that it all tastes much better if you let the mixture sit in the fridge for an hour or two. I think the tomatoes absorb more of the seasoning and garlic. Now I want some bruschetta...

Joshua Radin

If you like Joshua Radin, head over to Amazon (apparently today only) because his newest album is only $1.99. I've never actually bought music through Amazon, but it was relatively easy. I had to download a program which is a little annoying, but for $1.99 it was worth it!
